Physical Education at Christ Church

Our approach to Physical Education is rooted in our Christian vision that every child is a unique gift from God and shaped by our core values of Love, Faith and Hope. At Christ Church, we believe PE should inspire every child to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of being physically active.

We work in partnership with Moving Matters to provide high-quality professional coaching and specialist teaching across the school. Their vision of developing confident, healthy and active children aligns closely with our own commitment to nurturing the whole child and ensuring every pupil can flourish physically, socially and emotionally.

Our PE curriculum is designed to develop fundamental movement skills, physical confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship through a broad range of activities and experiences. Pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves, persevere and celebrate both personal and team success. Through carefully planned lessons and coaching, children develop coordination, balance, agility and fitness while also learning the importance of cooperation, respect and determination.

We believe PE should be inclusive and accessible to all pupils. Coaches and staff adapt activities to ensure pupils with SEND and varying physical abilities can participate successfully and feel a strong sense of achievement. Positive relationships and encouragement help pupils develop confidence and resilience, particularly those who may be less confident in sport or physical activity.

Physical education also contributes strongly to pupils’ wider personal development and wellbeing. Through sport and active learning, pupils learn to manage emotions, communicate effectively, support one another and develop leadership skills. Opportunities for competition, teamwork and enrichment help pupils build self-esteem and understand the importance of healthy lifestyles.

Our partnership with Moving Matters also supports staff development through modelling, collaboration and professional learning, helping to strengthen the consistency and quality of PE provision across the school. This reflects the wider priorities identified within our SEF around high-quality teaching, professional development and ensuring all pupils can access a broad and ambitious curriculum.

Through PE, we aim to develop active, confident and resilient learners who understand the importance of physical and mental wellbeing and who approach challenge with positivity, determination and hope.
